Frequently Asked Questions

Who can take classes?

Anyone 18+ with a valid Leonia Library Library card can take classes. If you don’t have a library card, stop by the Circulation Desk.

What is the cost?

The registration fee each semester is $25.00. Fees are non-refundable.  (The fee may be waived for financial hardship reasons.)

How many classes can I take?

Students can take one class each semester. If more tutors become available, we may offer additional classes.  Due to high demand, we cannot guarantee placement if you have been in the program for two or more years. All other students will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full.

How will I be placed in a class?

Student placement is determined by skill level and availability. All new students are required to fill out a registration form online (or in-person at the Library).

When are classes held?

Classes are held Monday to Friday with 4-8 students per class.

There are two semesters, fall and spring.  Classes typically last 90 minutes (Intermediate)  or 1 hour (Advanced).

  • Morning classes – 10:30 am

  • Afternoon classes 1:00 pm

  • Evening classes- 6:30 pm (limited availability)

  • Saturdays (limited availability)

The Fall semester typically begins the week after Labor Day in September and runs through mid-December.

The Spring semester typically begins around January 15 and runs until the week before Memorial Day in May.

Summer drop-in conversation groups begin in mid-June and run through the summer.

(No registration required.) Consult the library website for details.

Do I need to buy a textbook?

No.  Learning materials will be provided in class.

Where are classes held?  Are classes in person or on Zoom?

Classes are held in person in the conference room on the main floor of the Leonia library.
